Blue Shirt Club

Never sweat a blue shirt again with Blue Shirt Club – the world’s most absorbent underarm shield! We were brought on board – in collaboration with What a Bee! Studios – to produce an animated ad for Blue Shirt Club. To say the least, it was an interesting project to work on.

This marks the first time that we were asked to produce the art and animation in an anime style. When we first started studying animation (over 15 years ago), anime was the very first style that we sought to replicate. In fact, anime is what inspired us to pursue animation and attempt to hone our skills. But that was over 15 years ago.

Diving back into the world of anime took some studying and review of what we had learned and practiced back then. We’re pretty happy with the end results of this ad, but due to the incredibly short turnaround time that we had for this project, we couldn’t push it as far as we wanted to. Still, we’re happy with what we’ve managed to do within the time frame.

You’ll be able to learn more about what went into the development when we release our MAKING OF for this project. In the meantime, you can check out the full ad below:

Working with What a Bee! Studios

We’ve recently partnered with What a Bee! Studios to help in developing numerous upcoming projects. What a Bee! Studios has been a pleasure to collaborate with in the past, and we’re very excited to team up on a regular basis. We had the honor of designing their newest logo, as well as producing a portion of the new intro for EyeOfSol’s 5th season, and we’re currently working on our first official project together.

We’re very excited to continue working alongside the incredible artists and creative minds at What a Bee! Studios, and can’t wait to share what we create with them!

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: WDWL.FM Logo

Back in 2013, we had the honor of working with the sensational Dee Spencer (a.k.a DeeWorks) to design a logo for her radio show WDWL.FM Live! This was a very simple and straightforward project, as DeeWorks allowed us to explore our creative ideas while helping to keep us calibrated to what she’s looking for. It was truly a pleasure working with her!

Storyboarder

If you ever work on projects that require you to produce storyboards and animatics, then look no further than Wonder Unit’s Storyboarder.

Storyboarder is an open-source software that allows you to create storyboards and animatics quickly and efficiently. If you need to get more detailed, then there’s an integrated Photoshop button that takes you right into Photoshop (along with any art that you’ve already created in Storyboarder). After saving your Photoshop work, it’s instantly updated in Storyboarder!

Storyboarder is simple and straightforward, not trying to do more than what’s needed of it (something that we truly love and appreciate). You’re provided with five drawing tools and an eraser. You have your storyboard panels aligned at the bottom, and to the right you have an area to input duration, dialogue, action, and additional notes for your scenes.

There’s also this very cool feature that allows you to auto-generate shots based on how you describe them. For example, by typing ‘medium shot’, you’re presented with pre-drawn art that caters to your description. This can be incredibly helpful when quickly putting together a storyboard for reference. The software also occasionally gives story tips and inspirational quotes to help keep you motivated!

We’ve been searching for a great storyboarding software like this for many many years. For storyboarding in particular, there hasn’t been much of anything available outside of studios that develop their own in-house software, so we’ve personally been elated about Storyboarder. We give our sincerest gratitude to the masterminds behind this awesome software, and to everyone who has been helping to bring it to life!

If you’d like to check it out for yourself, then simply visit wonderunit.com/storyboarder and download the software today!
